The Poetry Crib: Holdin’ On
Holdin’ On
by Dan Franklin
of Mind of Mirrors
As I trace all the steps that I’ve taken
Like a photograph with all of the faces faded
Familiar, but can’t be placed
There’s a sense in the distance that draws me.
Smiling siren’s voice playfully paints
The mirage of reclaimable innocence
CHO:
You can’t go back, but you can’t move on
‘Til you let go, but you keep holding on.
All the streets in the town I grew up in
Tell of rusty memories that time has corrupted
And spliced together carelessly
Clearly there’s nothing left for me here still,
I admit my addiction to denial
While your ghost lurks everywhere
CHO:
You can’t go back, but you can’t move on
‘Til you let go, but you keep holding on.
